Stake meaning in betting is simple: your stake is the money you put down, and everything else on a slip is worked out from it.

Odds vs probability is the first sum worth learning next. A decimal price is a probability turned upside down, with the bookmaker’s margin folded in. Once you can switch between the two, you can tell whether a price is generous, fair or thin. The sports betting sites guide pillar covers the rest of what to check; this page is the arithmetic.

Odds vs probability: the one division that converts them

The implied probability of a decimal price is 1 divided by the price. Multiply by 100 for a percentage.

Decimal oddsSumImplied probability
1.251 ÷ 1.2580%
1.501 ÷ 1.5066.7%
2.001 ÷ 2.0050%
3.001 ÷ 3.0033.3%
5.001 ÷ 5.0020%

Going the other way, a probability turns into a fair price with 1 divided by the probability: a 40% chance is fair at 2.50. If the slip offers less than your own estimate’s fair price, the bet costs you value before a ball is played.

Stake meaning in betting, and what a return includes

Your stake is the money you put down. A decimal price already includes the stake in its return, which trips up a lot of first bets.

  1. Return = stake × odds. ₱300 at 1.80 returns ₱540.
  2. Profit = return − stake. Here ₱540 − ₱300 = ₱240.
  3. A loss returns nothing: the whole ₱300 is gone.
  4. A push on a whole-number handicap returns the stake, ₱300, and nothing more.

The handicap bet guide shows when that push can happen. All of these figures are examples you can replace with your own.

Finding the bookmaker’s margin in two prices

Add the implied probabilities of every outcome in a market. A fair book would total exactly 100%; a real one totals more.

Problem

A match shows 1.85 on one side and 1.95 on the other, and you want to know what the price keeps.

Fix
1 ÷ 1.85 ≈ 54.1% and 1 ÷ 1.95 ≈ 51.3%. Together they make about 105.4%, so the margin is roughly 5.4% of the book.

A lower total means a sharper price for you. Compare the same market across matches on the slip rather than trusting one number in isolation; the Dota 2 odds breakdown runs the same check on an e-sports series.

Betting calculator sums for multiples

A multiple, or accumulator, needs every pick to win. Its price is the product of the individual prices, which is where a calculator earns its keep.

Working a three-leg multiple by hand

  1. Prices 1.50, 1.80 and 2.00: multiply them, 1.50 × 1.80 × 2.00 = 5.40.
  2. A ₱100 stake returns ₱540 if all three win.
  3. Implied probability of all three: 1 ÷ 5.40 ≈ 18.5%.
  4. The margins multiply too, so a multiple is usually a thinner bet than its single legs.

Where this arithmetic meets the JLJL77 bet slip

The SPORTS lane on the lobby’s desktop bar, and the Sports and E-sports entries in its phone menu, lead to the bet slips. Each slip prints the price, your stake and the potential return before you confirm, so you can run the division above in your head before you press anything.

  1. Read the price beside your pick, for example 1.75.
  2. Divide 1 by it: about 57.1% is the chance the price implies.
  3. Ask whether your own estimate is higher; if not, skip the bet.
  4. Check that the slip’s potential return equals your stake times the price.

Set the stake you planned at the start of the session and keep to it.

The studios behind the casino lanes sit in the game provider list, and the market words you meet on a slip are defined in casino terms explained for sports bettors.

FAQ

What does stake mean in betting?

Your stake is the amount you put on a bet. A winning bet at decimal odds returns stake times odds, so ₱100 at 2.50 returns ₱250, of which ₱150 is profit. A losing bet returns nothing.

Do I need a betting calculator?

Not for a single bet. Two sums cover it: 1 divided by the odds for the implied probability, and stake times odds for the return. A calculator helps with accumulators, where you multiply several prices together.

Why do the implied probabilities add up to more than 100%?

That surplus is the bookmaker's margin. Two even sides priced at 1.90 each imply about 52.6% apiece, 105.2% together, and the extra 5.2% is what the price keeps.
